Celadon zun with lotus petal design was unearthed in an unknown
tomb of Southern Dynasty at Ling Mountain which outside Qilin Gate
in Nanjing in 1972. There is another zun the same as this one when
we found it. They are all 85 centimeters high, and they are the
biggest and most exquisite among all the celadon products in Six
Dynasties. It is approved as “King of Celadon Utensils”.
It is decorated by the pattern of lotus at every position,
including the neck and the bottom. These lotuses are all designed
in the technology of relief sculpture, mould pressing and carving,
and they made the zun be a perfect article. Lotus is the symbol
flower of Buddhism, so it is also a rare Buddhist article. What is
more, it is gem of ancient Chinese art.
