Chaotian Temple has the biggest scale and the highest construction
class among extant historic building of Ming and Qing Dynasty in
Jiangnan area. It had been repaired in past dynasties and is well
preserved now. Chaotian means “worship god” in Chinese and it was
given by Zhu Yuanzhang, the emperor of Ming Dynasty, in 1385.
Chaotian Temple locates in the Ye Shan areas which are the earliest
developed and famous place in Nanjing.
Now the Chaotian Temple we see was rebuilt in 1866, has east,
middle and west, three roads. Jiang Ning Fu Xue is located on the
east road while Bian Kun Ci(50 thousand㎡) locates in the middle. In
1957, Chaotian Temple is listed as officially protected site in
Jiangsu Province and also is where Nanjing Museum located.
